ORAL MEDICATION
Oral medication has been used for years in the treatment of male erectile dysfunction. In the past, the most frequently prescribed oral drugs have been in the form of supplemental male hormones, specifically testosterone. This has been recently proven to have no effect on erectile strength. Instead, it increases libido and indirectly improves erectile strength.
Yohimbine has been readily available in other countries, specifically the United States, for some time. It has enjoyed widespread popularity for the treatment of erectile weakness. Unfortunately, recent trials have shown that even in high doses, Yohimbine is no better than sugar tablets for men with erectile dysfunction as a result of a vascular cause. It appears to have an effect mainly in those men who have psychogenic impotence. Yohimbine, when taken with an anti-depressant, produces a significant improvement in 70 per cent of men with psychogenic impotence.
Red ginseng is still believed to have powerful properties for treating erectile dysfunction. However, there are few studies to date that have been able to prove this scientifically.
